The ad-supported version of Disney+ will cost $7.99 a month when it launches in the U.S. on December 8 — the same price of the streaming service currently. Disney+ without ads will cost more, $10.99 a month, Disney announced Wednesday.
Consumers will have the option to bundle all three services for $12.99 a month with ads included.
“With our new ad-supported Disney+ offering and an expanded lineup of plans across our entire streaming portfolio, we will be providing greater consumer choice at a variety of price points to cater to the diverse needs of our viewers and appeal to an even broader audience,” said Kareem Daniel, Chairman, Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution in the press release.
The ad-supported versions of Disney+ will also be incorporated into new Disney Bundle plans. An ad-supported bundle that includes Disney+ and Hulu will cost $9.99 and an ad-supported bundle of Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ will cost $12.99.
The service is one of three pillars of the conglomerate’s direct-to-consumer strategy: ESPN+ offers no ad-free tier. Hulu has had commercials since its 2010 launch and it remains a popular option; the service began offering an ad-free version in 2015. All together, the three services have 221.1 million subscribers.
