The hit stick is back in Madden NFL 23 despite major gameplay changes and using it is vital to having success against either AI or real-life opponents. The hit stick allows you to lay out a ball carrier with a booming hit, and often times it can even cause a fumble. Today we’ll go over how to use Hit Stick in Madden NFL 23.
A Hit Stick requires a player to line up in front of an opposing player. Most players will take control of the defensive player in front of the opposing player they expect to have the ball. Once the play starts, move the character toward the ball carrier and move the right stick up or down to initiate a Hit stick.
Pressing up on the right stick as your defender approaches the ball carrier will trigger the high tackle hit stick. This high-power hit to the ball carrier’s upper body stops all its momentum in its tracks. The high tackle hit stick also greatly increases the chances of the ball carrier fumbling on impact, giving your team a great opportunity to get the ball back and swing the momentum of the game in your favor. The drawback is that if the ball carrier has the room to juke and times the move well, they may cleanly dodge the tackle attempt.
Alternatively, if you press down on the right stick, it will trigger the low tackle variation of the hit stick. This tackle is still extremely powerful, but it’s more of a chop block type tackle, with the defender throwing themselves at the ball carrier’s lower body. The best way to use this type of hit is on a player that has just secured a reception or shed a tackle. If timed properly on a player that isn’t fully in their stride, it can prevent them from planting their feet to gain any extra yardage. It’s not ideal in a situation where a player can hurdle over the tackler and then have a clear path to a touchdown.
Utilizing the hit stick is a fairly simple and straightforward process. It doesn’t take long to get the hang of it, and once you do, you can use it to make the offense pay on the football field. Not every attempt to strip the ball is prosperous, although. Remember, timing is significant.
Additionally, there are a few superstar X factor abilities that can either strengthen a hit stick attempt. The strongest hit stick ability is the “Avalanche” superstar X factor ability, which is possessed by the Los Angeles Rams’ MLB Bobby Wagner. This ability means that when the player enters the zone, any and every successful hit stick tackle will force a fumble from the ball carrier. So if you’re looking to have fun hit sticking players into the turf, Bobby Wagner is your guy. He’s only selling for ~33k Madden 23 Coins.
